You're right, stripes. The amount of D1 talent that comes out of Virginia each year is more than double that of TN and KY together.

state wide VA is better I think SWVA is better that far eastern KY if you listen to the KY games somretimes even the announcers will say that the area has a few very good teams and a lot of bad teams
grundy played 3 KY schools a couple of years ago and beat them all, Haysi has played a 5 KY schools in the past few years and the only one any good was letcher Central and their enrollment is HUGE, PV played BC and they were good, so that makes 2 good teams out of 9
As I said earlier, vs. GC Volunteer wasn't any better than average...and I consider GC average this year. It is a known fact that most TN teams have more speed than SWVA teams...you have to adjust to it. And, I stand by what I said all along...Volunteer may win 5 games. Just because the Wave went over there and got wiped out doesn't mean Volunteer is great...it could mean Clintwood had an off night...or that the Wave is overrated.

FTW
I think we could argue for years about which states have the best football - VA, KY or TN. The fact is that our LPD teams haven't faired that well when they've crossed state lines in the last few years. Obviously, there is some good talent in TN and KY as well.
Including Clintwood Friday night, only 3 other LPD teams have played schools outside VA since 01. Those other schools are Appy, Kelly, and PV. Appy was 0 for 2 vs Cloudland...but to be considered is Appy's overall record during those 2 years was 5-15. Kelly played the same Cloudland team, and Betsy Layne KY. Wise was 1 of 4 in those games...But again, Kelly's overall record those 2 years was 4-16. PV has played 8 games with out of state opponents Sullivan North (2-0), Breathitt (1-3), Seymour (0-2). out of those 4 seasons, there was only 1 where the Vikings either won or shared a district title. So, that being said, it's not like any of our district teams are playing out of state teams during their best years..and it isn't exactly like some of our top teams are playing in these games either. So, to say football in Region D is awful compared to TN or KY based on this is nothing more than a fallacy.
Well not just football, but thinking about other sports too. Our teams haven't dominated TN in either basketball or baseball.
As for the Clintwood - Volunteer game, I'm still kinda puzzled because even the Kingsport Times News predicted Clintwood to win. Did they not realize how good one of their local teams really is?
You need to remember generally when facing a TN team, the VA team is outnumbered in enrollment x2 if not much more. Heck Volunteers is 3x's Clintwood enrollment. Because of that in basketball and baseball you have more kids specializing in it.
When playing TN temas, you face more speed as well. And unless you adjust to it, it will kill your team.
They've always been better in other sports...all I'm talkin about here is football.
